High level 'male hormone' may kill men!
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - High levels of testosterone may be very dangerous for men, and may lead to their death, the researchers warn.

The researchers found that the natural abundance of the hormone in men is linked to blood clots, heart failure and heart attacks.

The researchers cautioned that the results have effects on men who take testosterone supplements to increase energy levels and sexual motivation.

However, they could not prove whether the hormone directly causes heart disease, and called for further testing.

Researchers from the University City of New York and the University of Hong Kong conducted the study, published in the British Medical Journal.

The study analyzed 400,000 men and women aged 40 to 75 years from previous studies and the Biobank database in Britain.

The team, led by Prof. Mary Schuling, conducted an assessment of genes predicting testosterone levels and their association with heart problems.

The researchers found that the high level of normal testosterone in men is clearly linked to an increased risk of blood clots, heart failure and heart attacks.

The team says more evidence is needed to clarify whether the results are related to higher rates of this hormone in men than women.

They also suggest that it may be useful to consider whether current treatments that reduce testosterone can help protect against these deadly diseases.
